Trinity Tidings

Roaring Spring, PA 16673                                                     November 2016

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

John 3:16 says, “for God so loved the world that He sent His one and only Son.”  Jesus came to forgive us and that forgiveness makes us ONE with God and brings us into the family of God.  Jesus gives us His strength to overcome great obstacles and it is Jesus who calls us to share His story of love and grace with others. These stories (our story) is epic because they all point to Jesus.  Your story is the greatest story of all because it is the story God has given us to live and share and no one else in all the world can tell it.  Just think about it…God has created us in God’s image.  God has placed us here for a purpose.  God wants our lives to reflect His power and love and glory and what can be more epic than that?

Now I know you may be sitting there saying to yourself: “I am just a teacher, or a nurse so how can my life be epic?”  Or maybe you are saying, “I am just a stay at home mom or dad, I am retired so not even working or I’m just a student so how can my life be an epic story?”  Joseph could have said the same thing as he sat in a jail cell.  Ruth might have said “I am just a widow” but remember how God used her.  Even Jonah probably said, “I am a failed prophet who has been thrown up onto the beach” and yet God used him and made his life’s story an epic one.  What made these people different and their lives epic is that they were willing to step into the story God had for them.  They allowed God to speak in them and through them and when they surrendered to God – their lives became epic stories.  Our lives become epic stories every time we step into the story of God and every time we allow God to tell His story through us.

So how do we step into God’s story, or how do we allow God’s story to be told through us?  It starts at the beginning when we acknowledge that we have been created in the image of God which means that every one of us has value and dignity and every one of us has something to offer.  Accepting the gifts and talents God has given us and using them mean we are living the story God has for us.

Do you realize that you have something valuable to offer the world?  Do you realize that God has given you a gift you need to share?  I had a Youth Group leader named Ron Wilkes who helped me to realize the gifts that God has given to me – that I could tell the God’s story in and through my own life.  Brothers and Sisters in Christ, if we realize the story of other people’s lives – we need to encourage them to see the amazing life that God has given them.  I would not be here today if it was not for Sunday School teachers, and my youth group leader.  They helped me see that I could do more and be more than I thought or imagined and they helped me see God’s story in me.

When we find ways to use God’s gifts we are telling God’s story.  Our jobs, our hobbies, our passions, our desire to serve and our encouragement of others tells God’s story and that is where we start – but the story continues.

While living out our story is vital to our life, it is not enough for us to just live this out, we also need to share it with others.  We need to tell people that God is making a difference in my life and this is how He is doing it….We need to tell people that God forgives us and that God loves us no matter what we have done if we will only turn and accept God’s grace.  There are so many people who need to know that they are truly loved and forgiven by Almighty God.

We must live into all the promises God has for us.  It is there where we experience the fruit of God’s Spirit which are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control.  This is the life God wants to give us.  We must continue to tell our story because we have the greatest opportunity to share God’s life with others because they just see it in us.  It is when we share our story that others can begin to want that story for themselves as well.  God wants us to share His love, His forgiveness and His grace with others.  I know that this story is a part of my life, but it took me a long time to figure out how and when and where to tell it.  So, wherever you are today, God is calling you to share His story with others.  At work, school, in the community, in your family, in your circle of friends and your sphere of influence, God is calling you to live your story and tell of His love for others.  You may be the only story of God someone will ever hear and see and if they are looking at your life and hearing your story today, what will they know about God?  Will them know that God created them and loved them?  Will they know that we God forgives them over and over again?  Can people see the very life of Jesus Christ living through us?  Each of our lives is an epic story God wants to tell to the world.  Where are you in God’s story?  What chapter can you share with others?  What testimony can you give to family and friends?  When will you be willing to make God’s story your story?  God has given you a story – are you willing to share it with someone else today

Blessings for the journey,

Rev. Kevin

ADVENT BIBLE STUDY – Monday EveningsNovember 21st at 7 PM

There is a short-term Bible Study looking at the promises of Jesus as part of our Advent Study.  If you are interested in attending please let Rev. Kevin know of your interest.  This will be meeting in the parsonage.

Thank you for your support of the Spaghetti Dinner and the Bake Sale.  The Men’s Fellowship sponsored the Spaghetti and we are indebted to Chef Jere’ for his culinary expertise in making the delicious spaghetti.  We are happy to announce that the Men’s Fellowship raised $710 for the Angel Tree Christmas Gift Ministry.  There was also a Bake Sale during the Spaghetti Dinner and there was $399 raised that will go directly to the Roof Fund.  We praise God for the ways in which various people step forward in mission and in ministry.  Praise God!

We will once again be sponsoring a Thanksgiving Day Dinner for anyone in the Roaring Spring and surrounding communities on Thanksgiving Day from 11 AM – 1 PM.  Valerie Locker is once again sponsoring the Dinner and she could use as many volunteers who would like to step forward.  Valerie will be needing volunteers during the days leading up to Thanksgiving to make stuffing balls and pumpkin pies.  She will also need people to help prepare, serve and clean-up after the meal as well.  Your help is greatly appreciated.  And what a beautiful gift to the Community this is – to give thanks to God for all that He has given to us – we should feel blessed to be a blessing in the community around us!  Please let Valerie know if there is any way that you would like to help with the meal.

We will be having a “Hanging of the Greens” Service on Sunday, November 27th where we learn where our various Christmas traditions come from.  This will be an opportunity for many people to be involved in the Worship Service.  Valerie will be coordinating this Service – so if you would like to volunteer before she asks – that would be awesome.

LIVE NATIVITY – December 9, 10 and 11 from 6-8 PM

We are having our second Annual Live Nativity and we are looking for your help.  We need people to volunteer to take part of our Nativity by being one of the following - Mary, Joseph, one of the shepherds or kings and an angel.  We are also hoping that we might be able to borrow some live animals (so if anyone knows of some sheep or a llama or camel that we might be able to borrow – please let us know).  It is already in the planning stage but we are going to be asking for people to volunteer to share their Nativity Set with us – so that we can put them on display in the Round Room.  One of the reasons that we are having the LIVE NATIVITY on a Saturday night is because we will have Manna on Main Street and we will be asking everyone to go and view the LIVE NATIVITY after dinner and then come into the Sanctuary for dessert (and they will be able to view our Nativity Sets as well).  So, please be looking for more information regarding this.

Lord Jesus Christ, You call us to walk in faith, but we so rarely do that.  We follow for a time, but we are quickly led astray.  When Your message is too demanding, when You ask from us what we would rather not give, and when Your words make us feel uncomfortable, striking too near the mark, then we turn away from You, resisting Your call.  When other interests conflict with discipleship, when the demands and responsibilities of each day crowd in upon us, we are swift to forget You, ignoring Your will in preference to our own.  Forgive that shallowness of our commitment, and grant light to our path, so that we may step forward in faith and travel onwards wherever You might lead, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen
